La Vieille Ferme Cotes Du Ventoux Rouge 2009 6.99/750 ml.
Robert Parker says: "As shrewd consumers know, one of the best values in under $10 a bottle wine is La Vieille Ferme. La Vieille Ferme Cotes du Ventoux red exhibits excellent ripeness as well as plenty of cherry fruit intermixed with hints of dusty, earthy, peppery notes. Round and delicious, it, too, should be drunk during it’s first year of life." This is the value label from the Perrin family, makers of Chateau Beaucastel. Note we are WAY under $10, so stock up while it is in store! (2008 vintage shown, but 2009 is in stock now.)
Forest Glen California Varieties 6.99/750 ml.
Select from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
William Hill Napa Valley Varieties 13.99/750 ml.
Select from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay. These are great values in genuine Napa wines. Winery notes: "Cabernet Sauvignon is made and in elegant and refined style with cherry, blackberry, and clove aromas and flavors and intricate notes of cedar and tobacco box. Merlot is made in an intense fruit forward style and reveals a combination of red berry fruit aromas of plum, red cherry, raspberry, mocha, and spice. The concentrated aromas continue on the palate along with hints of chocolate and blueberry that meld into a plush, velvety finish. Chardonnay is made in a rich and elegant style with enticing aromas of creamy vanilla, honeysuckle and ripe fruit of white peach and pear. This wine is full bodied and rich with refined acidity that is maintained through the intense fruit and vanilla focused finish."
Colores Sel Sol Mendoza Malbec 2009 8.99/750 ml.
Tasting notes: "Enticing aromas and robust flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, and delicate rose petals. Sweet oak and mocha notes with hints of smoke glide over rounded tannins for a bold, full bodied wine."
337 Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 12.99/750 ml.
Winery notes: "The 337 Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 exhibits enticing aromas of toffee, black cherry and currant. Balanced tannins underscore core flavors of black cherry, blackberry, and currant, interlaced with roasted coffee bean and hints of black pepper. This Cabernet Sauvignon can be enjoyed on its own or matches well with braised meats."
Kunde Sonoma Merlot 2005 10.99/750 ml.
Winemaker's notes: "Classic aromas of cherries and tea leaves greet your nose and come through in the flavors, joined by some exotic sandalwood notes. The feeling on your palate is relaxed and full, the kind of wine you'll want to drink often. What's our secret? Balanced vines growing just the right amount of fruit in iron-rich volcanic soil." Composition is 89% Merlot, 5% Syrah, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Cabernet Franc. Released at $18, this is a very good deal on a wine that is drinking perfectly right now. Kunde Estate is one of the best in Sonoma, located right in the center of the valley. A great place to visit as well. Start out here at Frugal MacDoogal's.
Bivio Italia (Toscana) Tuscan Red 2006 7.99/750 ml.
If you like Chianti or Chianti ('super-tuscan') blends, this is a great value. The composition is 65% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. Winery notes: "Sourced from highly-acclaimed vineyards in southern Tuscany, the grapes prosper in the well-draining, high altitude hills where they develop body and fullness. Bright, ruby colored blend with a deep fruit and floral bouquet underscoring lush flavors of blackberries and raspberries leading to a long, richly textured finish. A perfect complement to Pecorino cheese, gnocchi with wild mushrooms, or pizza margherita."
Redtree California Pinot Noir 2008 7.49/750 ml.
Winery notes: "Displays aromas of fresh fruits and strawberries, with a hint of oak in the background. This lighter-bodied wine provides cherry flavors on the palate and more red fruits, finishing with soft tannins. "Amazing value in a California Pinot Noir!
Red Guitar Navarra Old Vine Tempranillo Garnacha 2007 8.99/750 ml.
From Navarra Spain, this is a superb blend of Tempranillo and Grenache (Garnacha). Together, these varieties combine to produce a rich, smooth and luscious wine full of ripe raspberry and blackberry flavors on a long, soft finish. A perfect wine for small bites, especially those little fun dishes called Tapas. A big seller because this is great wine for the money.
BV Tapestry Napa Valley Reserve 2006 32.99/750 ml.
Robert Parker himself tasted and rated this one 93 points, with an estimated price of $50. Parker says, "The 2006 Proprietary Red Wine Tapestry Reserve (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot) is the finest example of this cuvee I have ever tasted. Flowery, licorice-infused, cassis notes intermixed with forest floor and lead pencil shavings are followed by a layered, impressively built wine with real opulence, lots of red and black fruits, low acidity, and lush tannin. It should drink well for 15+ years. One of the most dramatic revelations in my California North Coast tastings was the resurrection/renaissance of Beaulieu Vineyard, one of the historic names in California winedom. Michel Rolland, the brilliant wine consultant, was brought in to help resurrect the Private Reserve program, and it appears his magic has spilled over onto the other wines as well." At this price, do not hesitate. Quantity limited.
Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot 2006 8.49/750 ml.
Winery notes: "Classic Merlot aromas of spice, blackberry and cocoa carry through the palate of this complex artisanally crafted wine. The balance of oak and black fruits creates a velvety, seductive finish." Wine & Spirits Magazine rates this wine 89 points, calling it a Top 100 Value of the Year.
Columbia Crest Grand Estates Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 8.49/750 ml.
Winery notes: "Soft, yet intense aromas of chocolate cherry, cassis and slight spice lead to a medium-bodied palate of fruit- forward flavors. This concentrated wine trails into a supple finish that offers silky tannins, notes of dark chocolate and a slightly spiced finish." Wine Spectator 89 points, "Savvy Shopper Spectator Selection Best Value" Stock up at this price!
Bogle Phantom Proprietary Red Blend 2006 18.99/750 ml.
A blend of Petite Sirah (49%), Zinfandel (49%) and Mourvedre (2%). Winery notes: "Three distinctive varietals combine lush berry and fierce spice into a wine characterized by its incandescence. Deeply luscious and succulent blackberries ignite this vintage of our rich ruby apparition. Aromas of anise and sweet fig are embraced by touches of black pepper. From the shadowed dark depths, subtle notes of cloves and vanilla emerge and compliment the concentrated fruit characters of this wine. Captured in 1, 2 and 3 year old American oak barrels, this wine showcases the best these distinct varietals have to offer."
